'End of the river' (Turn Loose the Mermaids)

I had a beast of a time settling on a composition I liked for this one...I think I went through about three incarnations before I was happy.

I knew I wanted a person floating in a boat, at a river's end, but that was about it. I was torn between Boromir and the Lady of Shallot, and ultimately ended up going with the latter. Hers is such a lovely tragedy that I think works well with the mood of the song (whereas I could see Boromir fitting a little better in a song like Rest Calm).

And ugh, trees. The only thing more tedious to draw than ocean waves is greenery. (And NW songs just happen to be full of both. O_o )

Turn Loose the Mermaids has become my sort of "magic song", in that weird stuff tends to happen when I listen to it. Once I saw a lone paper lantern floating over US1 as we were driving along at night...and I had never seen one of those in real life before. Another time I was pulling out of our apartment complex and found our lake full of white pelicans...in an area that doesn't normally have those. Just...stuff like that.
